Evaluations
May 2005 Evaluated by Chay
HFBA March Evaluations by Chay
Well my mares just got back from a 3 day evaluation from Chay at the HFBA. The mares really enjoyed themselves and did very good while being evaluated. This is what chay had to say about Rhose.
DAY ONE: Conformation
SCORE: 82.2
Synopsis: A lively grey Polish mare, Rhose Willow stepped in the ring with a bit of a skittish demeanor, but she soon settled and got down to business, paying attention to her handler. This mare had good conformation, with some of her most striking features being her excellent Arabian head, great tail carriage, nice, strong, arched neck, and clean, straight legs. Her back was slightly longer than what is generally coveted in Arabians, but it connected well with her neck, shoulders and hindquarters, lending to the overall picture that this mare was put together in a lovely way. Her hooves were nice and strong, and when running my hands over this mare, she stood strongly without the slightest flinch, even with immense pressure to her back. Overall, I conclude that this grey beauty has very sound, strong, and elegant conformation, with her strongest points being her legs, her classic arched neck, and her strength.
DAY TWO: Movement
SCORE: 79.7
Synopsis: What I found after having Rhose Willow put through her gaits is that while she is not phenomenal in any area, she is, overall, a very strong mover, without weakness in any of her gaits. Her walk was brisk, forward-moving, with her head up and looking about. She had remarkable balance in her walk, as in her other gaits. Her trot, though not huge or consisting of the pause-in-the-air action was, nevertheless, springy, elegant, and it was obvious this mare has worked with a sporthorse trainer at some time or another. Her canter was very nicely formed—not sloppy, but naturally lovely, and she looked like she’d be a lovely seat to ride. As on Day One, her clean straight legs gave her major points while she was moving, for they provided the perfect score while Rhose Willow trotted to and from me.
DAY THREE: Evaluation of Get & Their Accomplishments Synopsis: Rhose Willow’s only filly, a small black Arabian, was on the premises to be evaluated. I found this filly to be very engaging, with excellent ground manners, a great disposition and great conformation. She had her dam’s clean, straight legs and arched neck, but was also a generation improved for while her gaits were all good like her dam’s, her trot was phenomenal, most likely to be attributed to her sire. I could, without a doubt, see Rhose Willow in her filly, as her conformation was an uncanny replica of her dam. Although this filly is only a weanling, she seems to show great promise and I do recall her in the February HFBA show, and how she consistently placed at the top of her classes. Also, the fact that Rhose Willow is pregnant again helped to make my decision that she deserves her first legion of merit as an outstanding broodmare, passing on her good traits to her foals and furthering the Arabian breed. She was awarded her Honor of Excellency+.
AWARDED: Honor of Excellency+ (HE+)
Evaluated in September 2005 by Chay, This is what she had to say:
Rhose Willow
DAY ONE: Conformation
Score: 83.9
I met this gorgeous grey mare last March, and it was wonderful to see her back for the second evaluations, this time much less skittish and ready to present herself in fine form. Just to glean over her conformation highlights, I was impressed with her clean, straight legs, classic, arched neck, striking and exotic Arabian features and overall air of determination. She seemed to stand in the ring as if ready to impress upon everyone her beauty and singular strength.
DAY TWO: Movement
Score: 85.6
Rhose Willow did much better on her movement score this time around, probably due the fact that she was more relaxed, as with day one. I was struck by her floaty movement, her classic Arabian trot, and her flexible hocks, all indicative that she probably passes on great athleticism to her foals, perhaps with predispositions to English and hunter disciplines. Rhose Willow was very animated on her second day, and her handler could hardly get her out of the ring, she seemed to thrilled to prove herself. A very lovely mare—balanced, elegant and with great forward movement. My only criticism is that she could have had a bit more stretch in her paces at times. Nevertheless, she was a joy to watch in action.
DAY THREE: Evaluation of Foals & their Accomplishments
Rhose Willow had three lovely foals in tow this time around, and the first that I evaluated was Black Rhose, a stunning, stretchy 2005 filly who already has acquired an impressive show record, much of it from strutting her stuff at the monthly HFBA shows. Already a champion, Black Rhose resembles her dam in that typified, exotic Arab look, complete with her springy movement, clean legs, and front action. A lovely filly, and as she matures, I am sure she will become even more beautiful, perhaps growing into fuller movement as she ages. Next on the docket was Rasia Fire (a *Pyralus baby, I must gloat ), a very lovely grey filly with expressive, dark eyes, a short, coupled back and great slope to her shoulders. A yearling filly, she has already shown great promise in the ring, and looks as if she could possibly fulfill some dressage goals one day, as she has extremely precise movement, probably attributed to her sire, but with an added bonus of spry elegance and a gorgeous trot, which I credit to her dam, Rhose Willow. Lastly, I had the pleasure of evaluating Rhose Heaven, a white-grey two-year old filly, who snorted and blew air all-around the ring, practically dancing she as she went. This filly had extremely exaggerated, BIG movement, movement that, if harnessed, could probably take her to many ribbons. A very lovely filly, I definitely see Rhose Willow in her conformation and in her clean legs and flexible hocks. Overall, I was definitely impressed with Rhose Willow’s consistency as a dam, as last time I saw her, she had but one foal on the ground. With her three fillies now, I feel quite confident in awarding her an HFBA Honor of Supremacy (HS+), as this grey beauty has shown that she consistently passes on her best qualities, and strives to promote the best of the Arabian breed.
